Daniel Pantaleo, the NYPD officer who choked Eric Garner to death last year, has two on-duty cops parked in front of his house at all times to protect him because he received at least one death threat, the Daily News reports.
In an affidavit presented in court Wednesday, Pantaleo requested that Supreme Court Judge Alice Schlesinger reject the Legal Aid Society’s request to make public the number of Civilian Complaint Review Board complaints lodged against him and if any of them were found to have merit. As it stands, all CCRB data is confidential. The Legal Aid Society has also requested that the records of grand jury proceedings that cleared Pantaleo of wrongdoing be made public.
Pantaleo does not want the complaints made public because he fears for his and his family’s safety. He says that some CCRB data has already been “improperly released,” and as a result a man in Michigan threatened to cut his head off.
“Because certain CCRB records have already been improperly released, without my knowledge or permission, I have actually been harassed, embarrassed and subjected to character assassination,” Pantaleo wrote. Here it must be noted that Pantaleo choked a man to death for selling untaxed cigarettes and got away with it.
