It’s not unusual to see religious leaders railing against the policies of a Democratic president, but this time, it’s a sentiment plenty of liberals can get on board with as well.
“From a New Testament point of view, drones are completely appalling,” retired Episcopal rector Paul F. M. Zahl told CNN in a recent interview. “The whole idea of killing a guy without giving the guy a chance to surrender is preemptive. That for me was completely contrary to the teachings of Christ.”
“The Obama administration is playing God,” agreed Franciscan friar Joe Nangle. “Instead of a culture of life, we are dealing death.”
Can’t say I disagree with the two men’s assessment of the drone policy, but I wonder if they’d be changing their tune with a Republican in office.
