So far this year, the city’s 311 hotline has received 452 graffiti complaints in Sunset Park, compared to only 225 in 2013. The graffiti is “most prevalent along Eighth Avenue, pillars under the Gowanus Expressway and certain pedestrian pathways,” DNAinfo reports, providing a nifty map illustrating city-wide statistics.
Other neighborhoods where residents complained most included Greenpoint and Cypress Hill. Brooklyn topped the list as a borough with 4,800 total reports so far this year, followed by Queens (2,271), the Bronx (2,240), Manhattan (1,781) and Staten Island (196).
Long time Sunset Park resident Renee Giordano told DNAinfo that despite the recent uptick, there is by far less graffiti than twenty years ago: “This is nothing.”
