Greenpoint’s “Save the Palestine” Water Tower Buffed Gray

December 22, 2014 | Bucky Turco

The iconic water tower in Brooklyn that was emblazoned with “Save the Palestine” and a Polish flag over a decade ago was buffed with gray paint this weekend, reports Greenpointers.

No one’s quite sure who first tagged the historic structure or put up the flag on the water tower, which was originally built to serve an assemblage of ancient warehouses known as the Greenpoint Terminal Market. It survived the massive blaze that roared through the site in 2006, turning several buildings into waterfront ruins, only to be painted over so unceremoniously eight years later.

Here’s some drone footage of the water tower when it still had some character. RIP.
