British composer/director Alexis Kirke’s new short film Many Worlds is about a troubled girl who takes the famed quantum physics “Schrödinger’s Cat” thought experiment a little too literally… From there, however, the plot is determined by the audience.
Using sensors that monitor brainwaves, muscle tension, and heart rate, Kirke’s unique take on interactive film will automatically edit itself, in real-time, according to the audience’s physiological reactions. Audience members starting to lose interest? The soundtrack will intensify, pumping out a deeper, more heart-wrenching bass. Viewers feeling too content? The next scene might respond by showing something more unsettling. Which of the four endings ultimately concludes the film is, of course, also dependent on the audience’s collective biometrics.
The short film will be debuting at the Peninsula Arts Festival next month. We hope that Mr. Kirke, who has done other awesome stuff — like composing music that samples subatomic articles and ocean waves — will bring Many Worlds across the pond to New York ASAP.
