57th Street Block Reopens After Crane Incident

October 8, 2013 | Andy Cush

Yesterday, we told you that a crane at the seemingly cursed One57 luxury high rise had collapsed (again), leading to the closure of 57th betwen Sixth and Seventh Avenues. Authorities told us at the time that they’d attempt to fix the crane while it stood rather than bring it down like they did in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, and that’s exactly what happened. At around 4PM yesterday, the crane’s payload, some 13,000 pounds of concrete, was lowered to the ground, and the block of 57th Street was reopened. Hooray! Let’s hope this is the last time.
