Listen In: Bear In Heaven Made You A Playlist

August 5, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

Listen In” is a weekly feature in which we ask musicians to curate a mixtape-length YouTube playlist of songs they’re currently digging. Click the big play button above to hear the whole playlist or scroll down to see and hear individual tracks.

Today, Brooklyn’s Bear In Heaven released their fourth album, Time Is Over One Day Old. Their past releases have included soaring synth pop that dabbles in many of the popular styles of their contemporaries, from Animal Collective to Tanlines. Their African and psychedelic influences shine on this eclectic playlist, featuring quite a few new tracks alongside deep cuts with mysterious histories, like a field recording of Mazatec mushroom ceremony from 1954. This mix will open your mind to make room for Bear In Heaven’s new album.
