Subway Inn’s Eviction Temporarily Halted By City

August 20, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

The iconic Upper East Side dive bar Subway Inn was granted a restraining order just days before their planned eviction. The bar was opened just after prohibition ended. On their Facebook page, the bar thanked the people of New York for this temporary halt. “On behalf of entire Salinas family, we cannot express the immense gratitude that we feel for all New Yorkers that stood up and joined our fight to save our home,” they wrote. “We know that this is just the first step in a very long and hard David Vs. Goliath Fight; however, we are confident that in the end justice prevails and the Subway Inn will be spared from the wrecking ball.” (Photo: Kristine Paulus)
