NYPD To Officers: TBYHS

February 24, 2015 | Bucky Turco

Think Before You Hit Send: That’s the message police brass are sending to cops and civilian workers in the department ahead of issuing “official NYPD email accounts,” reports the Daily News. The emails are for work only according to the paper, and like the NYPD’s pilot Twitter program, guidelines are being given to officers to ensure that emails are used properly and let the rank and file know the consequences should they abuse the accounts:

After what happened with Twitter the idea was to lay out the rules as clearly as possible and to make sure everyone realizes that emails are like written documents. They can be used in cases. They can be subpoenaed,” said one police source.

“If you do things the right way there’s no problem,” the source said. “If you don’t, it could be embarrassing.”
