Breaking Bad fans residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico bought a charming little obit mention for the late fictional character.
WHITE, WALTER aka “Heisenberg,” 52, of Albuquerque, died Sunday after a long battle with lung cancer, and a gunshot wound. A co-founder of Gray Matter, White was a research chemist who taught high school chemistry, and later founded a meth manufacturing empire. He is survived by his wife, Skyler Lambert; son Walter “Flynn” Jr.; and daughter Holly. A private memorial was held by his family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a drug abuse prevention charity of your choice. He will be greatly missed.
The series will be greatly missed as well. TV and film production crews have spent over $416 million in the low-tax cinematic city of Albuquerque and put the city on a map, of sorts.
“It’s brought Albuquerque into the light, and we’re no longer a stopover,” fan and high school Science teacher Dave Layman told the Albuquerque Journal (pictured left), referring to all the Breaking Bad tours, some booking out months in advance,“We’re a destination.”
Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry tells The Guardian that he’s cool with this: “I’ve never run into anybody that doesn’t understand it’s a fictional drama.”
“Here’s a guy that was living paycheck to paycheck,” Layman said. “He ends up with cancer, has a son who is disabled, a wife who is going to have a baby and he finds some way to work it all out. He becomes unstoppable, he thinks. He’s a little man who kind of made it, even if he didn’t make it the right way.” YOLO.
