Christina Rinaldi was announced winner of Saatchi Gallery’s first Motion Photography Prize last night in London for her black-and-white window washing GIF. Organized in association with Google+ (to hype their “Auto Awesome” feature), the award was juried by “forward-thinkers,” — film director Baz Luhrmann, Saatchi Gallery CEO Nigel Hurst, artists Shezad Dawood, Tracey Emin and Cindy Sherman. Christina Rinaldi’s entry of a window washer almost transcends the GIF medium by turning the soapy water into brushstrokes, so it seems more like creating a painting.
The winner, a self-described New York-based creative director and conceptual nail artist, gets a “once-in-a-lifetime trip with a photographer or film-maker as her mentor.” Read why Art F City’s Paddy Johnson thinks “the whole idea is pretty dumb” but is fond of the “Jump” one.
We just hope the pigeonGIF came in at a close second.
