The Whitney Museum is currently closed while it makes the enormous move from its Upper East Side location to the Meatpacking District. But even when open, its full permanent collection isn’t on view, which is why it’s great that the museum just recently dropped over 20,000 new images from the archives onto its website.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that many of the images are quite small and of low quality; they don’t do the work justice. Also 3,154 of the images are by Edward Hopper. I mean Hopper’s cool and all, but that doesn’t really make me leap out my seat. Still, that’s 17,000 more images to peruse. But the fact is, ain’t nobody got time for that, which is why we did it for you.
The above gallery has some great pieces — not necessarily the best artworks — but some of the best works that also have a decent image on the Whitney’s site. So check them out. If you want to see more just go here and browse for days.
