Here’s what the 191st Street Tunnel looked like right after it was painted, legally, by graffiti and street artists in 2015. Eventually all those murals became backdrops, as they got more and more bombed, but that’s what also made it so beautifully New York. There’s layers to this shit.

#VEWSEUM: Over a month’s time, NYC artist VEW painted nearly two dozen pieces in the historic Park Avenue Tunnel. The thoroughfare has been shut to traffic for a few years now, with the roadway undergoing renovations by the DOT. This closure created the perfect opportunity for VEW (and other graffiti writers) to get up, in broad daylight, smack dab underneath some of Manhattan’s most bustling streets. Armed with rollers and cans of spray paint, VEW became infatuated with the spot, and put in the most work, spending hours on end there.

The constantly evolving passageway is like a magical place where the police are forbidden to enter. Not even young people practicing wheelies can summon the NYPD down there. We urge everyone to go visit the urban oasis for themselves to truly appreciate the full experience. #vewseum #vewertunnel #vewgi @_vewer_

Housing Works—a nonprofit committed to helping the homeless and persons with HIV/AIDS—made history in Manhattan on Thursday by getting the jump on everyone, and becoming the first official cannabis dispensary in New York State to open to the public.

Located at Broadway and 8th Street, a line of people stretching down the block eagerly waited to order from the @housingworkscannabis menu, which offered edibles ($30 for 100mg), vape carts ($53.40 - $84.80 for 1000mg), pre-rolls ($18) and flower ($40-55 an 1/8th)—there was a variety of sativa, indica,and hybrid strains available like Banana Runtz (21% THC), Gush Mints (25% THC), and Ri Ri (19% THC), among others.

Housing Works is one of eight nonprofits that have been granted a license to sell cannabis, along with 28 "justice-involved" individuals. Those dispensaries are expected to start operating in the next few months.

As to whether or not legal weed will work in the city known for consuming the most cannabis in the world is still years in the making—all the locals are one step removed from major plugs and won't wanna pay the tax—but if any place has a shot, it’s here.
