Tupac Musical Coming to Broadway

January 9, 2014 | Andy Cush

Following in the footsteps of ABBA, Fela Kuti, and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Tupac will get a Broadway musical inspired by his music this May. The production, called Holler if Ya Hear Me, will use Pac’s songs to tell a story of “friendship, family, revenge, change, and hope” that doesn’t necessarily follow the rapper’s biography. Expect a score heavy on inspirational jams like “Keep Ya Head Up”  and light on stuff like “Hit ‘Em Up.” What songs would you want to hear onstage? And who’s the next rapper to get canonized with the musical treatment? Biggie? The Beastie Boys? Nas?
