Last week, Jordan Neely was executed on a subway train for being hungry and mentally ill. We asked civil rights attorney Ron Kuby to write an oped about his thoughts on the matter. Please read entire piece on www.animalnewyork.com or scroll ⬅️, excerpts below:

Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he choked him to death.”

No. No. No. No! The Samaritan—henceforth known as the “Good Samaritan”—treated his wounds, got him lodging, and paid for his meals. And we may assume that if the wounded man was screaming about his hunger and thirst and his wounds, and looked really scary, all bloody and stuff, the Good Samaritan,
still would not have killed him on the spot."

"Pop Quiz: When can you kill someone in public who is acting all weird and erratic?

A. Whenever I feel threatened because my feelings are real and I should be allowed to act on them.
B. If I think they might do something bad because they could do something bad and are not like everyone else who also could do something bad.
C. If they are big and Black and loud and scaring white people.
D. When I reasonably believe that someone is imminently going to use deadly physical force against me or another, and we cannot retreat in complete safety.

If you guessed D, you are right! Although if you are a cop, C also works. What does “reasonably believe” mean? First, you have to actually believe it. Second, it is the type of belief that is society is willing to accept as reasonable. For example, if you are a young person of color, you might be really afraid of the police. And you might have reason to be, based upon your own experiences or those of your family, or the history of policing in the Black community. But it will not surprise you to learn that you cannot kill police officers based on that fear…”

Fox News—a right wing, broadcast media organization watched by dumb people easily triggered by M&M’s and Mickey Mouse—agreed to settle its epic defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems for $787,000,000. The staggering payout will allow Fox to avoid an extremely embarrassing trial, which is unfortunate, because there are generations of the television-viewing public who were hoping to see the propaganda network’s most highly paid talking heads squirm on the stand, as they admit to secretly loathing conman Donald Trump and not believing any of the election bullshit they were tossing out to their rabid audience of consummate victims. "Digidog is out of the pound," said Mayor Adams on Tuesday in Times Square, as the New York City Police Department reintroduced its pricey new robotic canines at a press conference. "Digidog is now part of the tool kit that we are using." The dystopian mutt made its debut a few years back, but was quickly muzzled after a lot of public backlash. The remote controlled units cost nearly a million dollars each, and were paid for by drawing from the city’s highly controversial asset forfeiture fund. They’re just one of several high tech machines the nation’s largest police force is trotting out. The others include a gun-like contraption that allows law enforcement to launch GPS tracking projectiles onto cars as a way to deter pursuits, and a goofy-looking “autonomous outdoor security robot” dubbed the K5, which rose to internet fame in 2017, when one of the units drowned itself in a water fountain, while on patrol in a mall. 🎥: Juliet Papa/1010 Wins
